Our day started early in the morning. We gathered at the bus at 7:45 and everyone was there on time, a small miracle since everyone was suffering for jet lag. Billy and Ben got up early and had a pre morning run of six miles along the Sea of Galilee. As we gathered outside the bus we all said the Shama together and had a word of prayer and blessing before we began.
Our first stop was at Glama, it is considered the Masada of the north.
Our second stop was, Caesarea Philippi, Banias,
It was here where Jesus predicted his death and asked Peter, " who do you think I am?"
This was the site where people worshipped the god Pan. We went a long hike through the forest to a beautiful waterfall. David and Sandy, gave us a faith lesson, to embark on our spiritual journey, ask questions and see where God will lead.
Our next stop was to the "Valley of Tears," where many soldiers were killed. We were told the sobering of the war of 1973. The Syrian and Israelis tanks were left for all to see how close the fighting took place.
After a surprise lunch of pizza and soda, we stopped at a store to buy treats to bless the soldiers of Israel, we were able to meet with four soldiers, all about the same age as our grand kids, the soldiers were able to tell us about their life and told us about the borders they were protecting. We were right on the Lebanese border. We could see the Hesbala right in front of us. Here is a picture of our gran kids posing with the soldiers. Amazing the sacrifice they make to protect their land and people.
Lastly, we heard a lecture by a man who was Dutch and was living in a kibbutz, on the border of Israel and Lebanon. His story was chilling of some of the things they have been through.
As you can see in the picture, the sun was beginning to set and we headed back to our hotel. A long day, but a great day. Everyone learned a lot both about ancient Isreal and modern Israel.
